I took advantage of a family connection to work on an international pipeline construction project in Pakistan, after which I transitioned into commercial construction back in the U.S.
Star gives customers the tools and training to separate themselves from the competition in their markets.
Star’s partnership philosophy with our customers sets us apart in the industry. It allows us to approach projects as a team.
My territories / accounts have fewer traditional builders than typical districts, so I spend a good bit of time putting together quotes in SBS. I am located in the OKC office, so I also provide assistance and support to our entire sales team, as well as supporting the needs of my builders and customers. There is never a shortage of calls and emails.
I recently found a soccer ball on the roof of a very tall building with large parapet walls. It was the perfect size to block the downspout of the valley gutter.
Builders and customers quite often question and are surprised at the impact of what they perceive as minor changes in design loads, such as a few mph in wind or a few pounds of snow. Questions regarding building bracing requirements and the location and cost thereof are also common.
Working in sales allows us to meet a wide variety of great people in our industry. It provides the feel of running your own business in a sense, while having the support of a large corporation behind you.

Educate customers, establish your credibility as an expert on the subject matter, and explore their needs using open ended questions before jumping directly into a quotation. You will often find that customers need information, rather than just a price.
I have had some very interesting travels working for Star, which have included driving in countries where there are no discernable traffic laws, driving on the left (wrong) side of the road, and many meals with items you won’t find at your local diner.
I dabble in woodworking and gardening, but I primarily like to get out on the motorcycle when time and Oklahoma weather permits.
