Why won’t SBS price my mezzanine structure? Kevin Gatewood, Senior Estimator at Star Building Systems, discusses pricing mezzanines.

There are many factors that prohibit SBS from pricing a mezzanine. One of the main factors has to do with how a mezzanine is loaded and how those loads affect the rest of the structure. Through SBS, the only loads that can be applied to a mezzanine are uniform loads. If SBS priced the mezzanine, based on these uniform loads, the design and pricing would be overly conservative. Most mezzanines are not truly uniformly loaded, but are instead loaded by area.

All that to say, allowing Star Estimating to price the mezzanine gives us the chance to review the mezzanine layout, loading, and design so that we can provide the most cost effective design that meets the needs of the customer.
